friendships with the JCP "lifers", and everyone from the crew. He even
sees his Chrissy and his little Cheezo occasionally too! So...he hopes to
see you at the show as you sit back, relax and enjoy!
Christine Hinz - Once upon a time...in a far off kingdom...lived a
young maiden and this maiden flounced though the kingdom looking for a
place to call home. Along the way she entertained the kings and subjects
with such shows as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and The
Pajama Game. One day she happened upon a band of happy troubadours,
entertaining the kingdom with the show How to Succeed in Business Without
Really Trying and she joined up with them. Through the years they did
many cabaret shows and musicals such as Godspell, The Wizard of Oz,
Little Shop of Horrors and Once Upon a Mattress. One day, as if by
magic, the band of troubadours were no longer just her friends, they
became part of her family. And it came to pass that she marries a
handsome physician, whom she loved very much, they bore a child together
and lived happily ever after.
Laurie Kim - Laurie was born and raised in Richmond Hill. An only
child, she tended to have a very vivid imagination (and still does), and
for some reason, was always pretending to be someone else. Who knew
that later on, she’d meet a group of people who wanted to put on a show,
and let her do just that? She is proud to say she has been with the JC
Players family since the beginning, and ten years later, looks forward to
her spring/summer breaks from reality as an international banker.
You may have seen her as Cinderella in Into the Woods, or Cowardly Lion
in The Wizard of Oz, Mrs. Huckabee in The Fantastiks or in Little Shop of
Horrors and Once Upon a Mattress. If you haven’t seen her, or any of the
JC Players, what are you waiting for??? They put on a great show, and
can’t wait to entertain you!Look for them at a church near you, and enjoy
the show!!!
Ruby L'Heureux- the production manager and assistant producer of the
JC Players, Ruby was among the few who showed up at the first casting
call in 1995 and she wasn't even auditions. "I was just a tag-along Mom
and by the end of the evening I was producer of For Heaven's Sake" First
assignment: find a case. And she did and the rest is history. Love you
all!
Timothy Mallard - The musical director of the JC Players. Favorite

Phillips.
Kristin Miller - has been part of the JC Players for 9 seasons now. She
was in Once Upon a Mattress, Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods as
Rapunzel, Glinda in The Wizard of Oz and Sally Cato in Mame. She has
recently graduated from Marist College with a Bachelor's Degree in
History and now is studying for her Masters in Library and Information
Science at Long Island University and is the archivist for the American
Bible Society. Most of the rest of her time is taken up by being an aunt
to her cuties, Richie and Emily. And of course, she sends her love and
thanks to this cast of random crazies.
Richie Miller - This is Richard's ninth season with the JC Players
and it still feels like a new venture each time. He comes from Andrews
UMC in Cypress Hills where they presented many shows over the years
including The Wizard of Oz, On The Air, Caught In The Villains Web and A
Scrooge Valentine. He is a veteran of forty-six years in the chancel
choir at Andrews and a past member of their Fife and Drum Corps and
handbell Choir. Being the "old man" of the group, he thanks the rest for
putting up with him. Richard is looking forward to many more years of
performing and enjoying the fellowship of the JC Players. He hopes that
his grandchildren follow the Millers as members of the JC Players.
Dennis Popp - is a member of Trinity Reformed Church and The Praise and
Worship Team. Some years back, the minister of St. John's (where Dennis
was originally a member) asked him to drive a group of church youth to
audition for a theatre group of area churches. At the audition, Dave
Stevens asked if he would mind reading a part so that the person
auditioning would have someone to interact with. Guess what? By the
next of auditions, he had been cast for the tole of Benny Southstreet in
Guys and Dolls! Imagine his surprise when his only role for being there
was that of a chauffeur! Dennis has been part of the JC Players ever
since. He has played various roles over the years in such productions as
Godspell, Cinderella, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,
Grease, Into the Woods, Mame, The Wizard of Oz, Little Shop of Horrors
and Once Upon a Mattress. Dennis hopes everyone enjoys watching these
shows as much as the JC Players enjoy performing in them.
Melanie Popp - has been a member of the JC Players for a number of
years. She has performed in such shows as Godspell, A Funny Thing
Happened on the Way to the Forum, Into the Woods, Little Shop of Horrors
and Once Upon a Mattress as well as countless revue shows. When Melanie's
not performing on stage, she entertains her preschoolers at Redeemer
Lutheran School. She also is a member of the Grace Notes, a community-
based choir. She loves musical theater and goes to Broadway shows as much
as she possibly can! Melanie looks forward to whatever the JC Players has
in store!
Dave Stevens - The founder of the JC Players and the pastor of Glendale
United Methodist Church. "For Heaven's Sake"! Has it really gone way
back to the summer of '95? (1995 that is!) I have really loved the many
"roles" I played with the JC Players - some of them on stage, some off,
some from a hospital bed, some "up and at 'em!" There is great joy in
being a founder of what has become such a rich and enriching experience
among all the many casts and crews. Wonder what next year will being?
Hugs to all - cast, crew and congregations.
Shawn Sweeney - Shawn has been with the J.C. Players since their
inception in 1995 and never believed it would last this long and become
this great. While he spends his days at the Lexington School for the
Deaf / Hearing and Speech Center as an audiologist, he spends his summers
rehearsing and performing with the JC Players. His credits include:
Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys & Dolls, Bud Frump in How To Succeed In
Business Without Really Trying, Danny Zuko in Grease, Matt in The
Fantasticks, The Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella's Prince in Into
The Woods, Seymore in Little Shop of Horrors as well as parts in
Godspell, Cinderella, For Heaven's Sake and the many cabaret shows to
date. He enjoys the long, hot rehearsals and spending time with his
summer family, after all - he does see them more than he does his own.
Shawn sends his regards to the entire cast, as well as everyone who helps
out behind stage and even in front because without everyone, none of this
would be possible. Enjoy the show!
Gina Vollmer - is a student at Hunter College where she plans to
complete a degree in English Language Arts. Gina has played such
memorable roles such as the Giant and Grandma from Into the Woods, The
Infamous Crow in The Wizard of Oz and of course the dumkolf Nikki Crandel
in The Musical Comedy Murders of the 1940's. Gina greatest accomplishment
has been dancing for over 15 years and adding choreographer to her resume.
